BLOCKBUSTER® PROMOTES JOHN BUTLER TO VICE PRESIDENT, MERCHANDISING DEVELOPMENT

DALLAS, June 8, 1998 -Blockbuster, the world leader in video rental, has announced the promotion of John Butler to the position of vice president, merchandising development.

"John has an impressive background in retail," said Dean Wilson, Blockbuster senior vice president and general merchandise manager. "His experience across a broad spectrum of multi-market retail operations makes him a natural for this position."

Butler was promoted to his new position from senior director of merchandising development. Prior to joining Blockbuster, Butler was director of merchandise replenishment for Trans World Entertainment. Before that, he held a variety of positions at Toys R Us, Canada. Butler is a graduate of the State University of New York at Albany.
