FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE "LAS VEGAS BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO® STORES
GO TO 24-HOUR WEEKENDS
"Rent The Movies You Want, When You Want" LAS VEGAS, March 12, 1998 --- Participating Las Vegas area Blockbuster Video stores are now open 24 hours on weekends, offering family entertainment day and night with "The Movies You Want, When You Want." Of the 21 Blockbuster Video stores in Las Vegas and Henderson 16 are open from 10 a.m. each Friday until midnight Sunday. The stores will keep their regular hours of 10 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday. The company is testing the extended hours in Las Vegas with the possibility of expanding the program to other areas with similar late-night demand. "Las Vegas is a 24-hour city, with many of our residents working non-traditional hours," says Tim Weiland, Blockbuster Southwest zone marketing manager. "Our 24-hour weekends provide a valuable convenience to our customers that work late-night and early morning shifts who will enjoy stopping by for a movie or video game at a time that fits into their schedules." According to Weiland Las Vegas is America's fastest growing city and a growing market for Blockbuster. In addition to the extended hours, the company plans to open several new stores in the Las Vegas area over the next year to meet the growing demand for family entertainment. The area's newest Blockbuster Video store that opened this week is bringing the convenience of 24-hour weekends to its new neighborhood customers at Stephanie Street and Warm Springs Boulevard in Henderson. The company will hire several new employees to fill positions created by the extended hours and has increased lighting outside participating stores to make them more inviting for late-night customers. As an additional incentive to Las Vegans, area Blockbuster Video stores have a new pricing structure featuring "hot" new releases at $2.99 for two evenings, most new releases at $2.99 for five evenings and "Blockbuster Favorites" at just 99 cents for five evenings. Video games now rent at just $2.99 for 16-bit games or $4.49 for 32/64-bit games for five evenings.
"We are already receiving positive feedback from our movie and video game customers about the new pricing, five-evening rental periods and more copies of popular titles," says Weiland. "With more stores set to open, extended hours and longer rental periods, we're making sure all of our Las Vegas customers 'Go Home Happy'."
